The Munich Satellite Navigation Summit 2009 - the seventh one, to be held March 3 - 5,  2009 in the famous ”Residenz München”, Germany - has been established as the European and International conference with global impact featuring invited high-ranking worldwide speakers from industry, science and governments dealing with the directions of satellite navigation now and in the future.

The Summit starts on March 3, 2009, 17.00 hrs with the Opening Plenary Panel. A Bavarian State Reception in the famous ”Residenz München” is giving opportunities for networking.

The technical program of the Munich Satellite Navigation Summit presents on March 4, 2009 a concise update on the main activities in worlwide satellite navigation systems, in particular on

  • the progressing development of the European satellite navigation system Galileo,
  • the modernisation of the US Global Positioning System (GPS-III),
  • the revitalisation of the Russian GLONASS system and its transition from FDMA to CDMA,
  • the development of new (regional) satellite systems like the Chinese COMPASS, the Japanese QZSS and the
    Indian IRNSS,
  • the developments of new regional augmentation systems,
  • and other exciting worldwide activities in the receiver field and service creation.

The Munich Satellite Navigation Summit will further highlight the creation of new applications and services in

  • satellite navigation, in combination with
  • telecommunication and
  • information technology, in particular geo-information technology

Various sessions will feature discussions among invited panellists talking about perspectives and critical issues in various rapidly growing application scenes of satellite navigation, in particular with Galileo. Brief presentations and statements of the panellists are initiating each session. An interactive question and answer period with the auditorium is closing the topic.

Emphasizing a future trend in satellite navigation, this year's Summit will focus on special sessions on safety and security, in particular also on the use of the Galileo Public Regulated Service (PRS).

Due to the great success again in 2009:

  • An exhibition for industry and institutions is taking place during the conference.
  • A visit to the German Galileo Test Environment GATE - now open for operational use - south of Munich, will be offered.
  • The European Satellite Navigation Competition 2009 will be opened.

The Summit is part of the efforts of the Bavarian government and the cluster on aerospace and satellite navigation to stimulate applications and services in this high-tech field in the greater area around Munich.

It is organized by the Institute of Geodesy and Navigation of the University FAF Munich in cooperation with and supported by numerous organizations outlined here.
