While Europe is eager to develop the Galileo satellite navigation
system, the US are looking forward to the GPS modernisation. In addition, the GPS
receiver products are penetrating new applications. A panel of US representatives
from governmental, scientific and military institutions as well as space industry
is informing about the present flashlights in the GPS scene. A brief discussion is
following on the expectations of the US on Galileo: A view on Galileo from outside!

GPS becomes more and more a reality in the various applications and
markets of the continent "down under". While GRAS augmentation will be built up mainly
for aviation, one can notice new developments in land and marine applications also. An
internal discussion on the way of satellite navigation in Australia is going on, in
particular on the future use of Galileo in and for the Australian industry. This panel
is organized by the Australian International Global Navigation Satellite Systems Society Inc. (IGNSS).

It was officially announced that the Russian GLONASS
system will be restored soon and that launches should be accelerated in
order to achieve the full constellation. With regard to the user segment
GLONASS officials have often stated that the system would be interoperable
to the other satellite systems like GPS and Galileo. However, GLONASS
is still using a Frequency Division Multiple Access whereas GPS and
Galileo use Code Division Multiple Access to differentiate between the
satellite signals. Representatives from Russia as well as European and
American GNSS receiver developers are discussing possible implications on
the combined use of the satellite navigation systems.
